Nine Elms – a model for urban transformation

There is no doubt that Nine Elms in London is an impressive transformational story at the heart of Europe’s financial capital. The area will be the last of the Central London locations which will complete the redevelopment of the South Bank.

The regeneration of Nine Elms continues apace. Only last week, an ambitious new project designed to dramatically cut the amount of clean rainwater becoming contaminated in London’s sewers was announced through the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership. The £14m project will be the biggest sustainable urban drainage system in the UK. During the same week, a new building for St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School was opened in the area.

In July, Battersea Power Station Development Company launched the Battersea Academy of Skills Excellence (BASE) to encourage people to consider a career in retail, hospitality, estate management, leisure or business. The academy is expected to work in partnership with existing local job programmes to match local people to the 17,000 long-term jobs that will become available over the next decade at the 42-acre power station site.

The primary objective of the Nine Elms Vauxhall Partnership is to ensure that the area is an ultra-modern, exciting destination in central London offering 20,000 new homes, 25,000 new jobs, new schools, parks, culture and the arts. The hype surrounding the renaissance of Nine Elms into an ideal hub in Central London is already attracting investors, including international property investors.

One of the premium properties in Nine Elms is the Sky Gardens Nine Elms SW8 marketed by Strawberry Star; a landmark collection of private apartments with roof top garden overlooking the city.
